A New Hope

A new hope is the subtitle of the most iconic movie in the most successful movie franchise in the history of mankind.  You may know it by a different name. I suspect you have heard of Star Wars.

A new hope is also the key to pumping new life into a struggling marriage.  How do you get to a new hope? Start by letting go of old expectations. My wife always says, “Expectations are premeditated disappointments.”   Part of why your marriage is stuck is because you are clinging to what and where you think you should be and you have lost sight of where you are.  When you focus on what’s missing, you fail to celebrate the multitude of small victories that happen everyday in your marriage.

The new in new hope can lead to a revitalized marriage.  Take a realistic view of what your expectations are. Sit down with your spouse, review your dreams, and recalibrate them so that you are both on the same page.  Unity can fuel progress and progress creates new hope.

Anything that is lost can be found again.  Hope lost is not hope destroyed. You just have to know where to look.  For a new hope the combined vision of both of you may discover exactly what you need.  It may surprise you that it is hiding in the middle of your daily struggles, hidden beneath old expectations.  Seek victories, however small, and let them guide you to the new hope that your marriage can be great.
